Fixed Bridges

Fixed bridges are non-removable dental appliances that offer an effective solution for replacing missing teeth.

There are various types of bridges, and your dentist will help you choose the best option for your specific case. Fixed bridges are particularly popular because they closely resemble natural teeth. This type of bridge comprises two crowns that are placed over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth). These crowns are attached to pontics, artificial teeth that fill the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

Dental bridges are highly durable and can last for many years. However, they might require replacement or re-cementation due to normal wear over time.

Here are the reasons for considering a fixed bridge:

The process of getting a fixed bridge typically involves two or more visits to the dentist. During the first visit, the anchoring teeth are prepared by removing a portion of the enamel to accommodate the crowns. A highly accurate impression (mold) of the prepared teeth is made and sent to a dental laboratory where the bridge is fabricated. Additionally, a temporary bridge is created and worn for several weeks until the next appointment.

At the second visit, your permanent bridge is meticulously checked, adjusted, and cemented to ensure a proper fit. In some cases, your dentist might temporarily cement the bridge, allowing your teeth and tissues time to adjust to the new appliance. The final, permanent cementation of the bridge occurs at a later appointment.

After the procedure, you will receive instructions on proper care. Regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups are essential to maintain the longevity of your new permanent bridge.
